Welcome to Newport News Human Rights Commission, where we stand for equality, justice, and the right to be heard. Join us in advocating for a fair and inclusive society.

Our commission works to protect all residents of Newport News from unlawful discrimination due to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status or disability occurring in public places, schools as well as within real estate transactions and employment decisions.

The commission consists of 9 members. HRCAP Administering Agents are appointed by the Newport News City Council. Commission members are appointed to serve a four-year term. They can be reappointed to a maximum of two consecutive four-year terms.

OUR MEETINGS

We meet on the second Wednesday of the month at 4:30 p.m. at the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center located at 2410 Wickham Avenue, Newport News, Virginia 23607.  Meetings are open to the public. Click check mark to view minutes.
